Massage

therapeutic massage & bodywork

Many of us carry so much stress tension that we begin to feel as though it's normal, until we experience the release and relaxation a massage can bring. Massage therapy doesn't just feel good. Research shows it reduces heart rate, lowers blood pressure, increases lymph and blood circulation, boosts the immune system and relaxes and relieves painfully tightened muscle tissue. Massage helps release the tension from stress, increases circulation and promotes healing in the body.

swedish massage

Swedish Massage manipulates the body's soft tissues using many different corrective techniques. The muscles, fascia, ligaments and tendons are lengthened, relaxed and replenished with techniques such as kneading, cross-fiber friction, trigger point and deep tissue massage. Swedish massage directly influences circulation, muscle tone and flexibility, increases range of motion and elimination of metabolic wastes. Stress reduction and relaxation, muscle pain and injury relief are some of the benefits experienced with Swedish massage. Hot Rocks may be used during session for even deeper muscle relaxation. Swedish massage sessions are done unclothed and the body is thoroughly draped with sheets during the session.

shiatsu massage

Shiatsu is an ancient Eastern Therapy of physical and energy rebalance, similar to acupuncture. A treatment consists of gentle or deep pressure applied with thumbs, palms, elbows, and knees to specific points on the body. Shiatsu promotes increased muscle tone and flexibility, reduces muscle stiffness, aches and pains. Shiatsu is usually experienced on deeper levels as well as the musculo-skeletal level. Results are often profound and most people enjoy a greater sense of connectedness between mind, body and spirit resulting in a deeper sense of calm. Shiatsu sessions are done fully clothed and loose comfortable clothing is recommended for the session.

myofascial release

(myo=muscle, fascia=tough connective tissue) is an effective therapeutic technique using gentle sustained pressure into myofascial restrictions and movement therapy to release the structural components of chronic pain caused by either injury trauma or daily wear and tear. Muscle balance may be restored allowing bones to float back into alignment. Myofascial Release is known to help conditions of back and neck pain, TMJ, Fibromyalgia, headaches and sports injuries. Many people feel dramatic relief of pain after experiencing a Myofascial Release session. Sessions are 60 minutes.

preparing for a massage

Allow plenty of time before your massage so you can cool down from your workout or spend time in the steam room. Relaxed, warm muscles benefit the most from treatment. Shower before your massage to eliminate having perspiration and body oils massaged into your skin. Talk to your therapist. Allow a few moments before your massage to address muscle soreness, tenderness or pain and communicate any discomfort during your session. If this is your first massage service, please arrive 10 minutes early to complete a brief client intake form and discuss concerns you may have.
