Learn how various yoga poses affect the spine and help to nourish and keep it flexible and healthy. With the knowledge of our very own in-house chiropractor, Dr. Al Latronica, and Suzanne Brett, a member of our expert Yoga staff, participants will explore the benefits of Yoga and demystify the internal happenings of the spine, learning how to improve alignment and awareness of movement. Suzanne will demonstrate specific Yoga asanas, while Dr. Al will explain what is happening internally within the spine (and other parts of the anatomy as well). Suzanne will demonstrate “good alignment”, “not so good alignment” and describe the Yogic benefits of the pose while Dr. Al will explain how Yoga and chiropractic can benefit spine health and contribute to a healthy lifestyle. Join Leslie for this unique Yoga workshop designed to help participants overcome the fear of their feet leaving the ground and dispel myth of “not enough arm strength”. After a brief and warming yoga practice, work on a progression of poses toward being able to lift the body and launch the hips to gain the needed height, enabling feet and legs to slide between the hands. With the aid of props, work on the mechanics and specific alignment needed to safely perform jump-through from downward facing dog to floor. Incremental poses will be introduced to help move toward performing a jump-through that can be added to your practice. Participants will also learn body mechanics to assist with inversions, including using the wall for support, and/or utilizing props according to individual need. Finally, participants will gain a greater awareness of body mechanics and how the core muscles are used in these particular yoga endeavors, as well as demonstrating the relationship between the two.
