“Couch to 5K” Rookie Runner Program

Can you really go from recliner to runner?  From sitting around to running a 5K? You bet you can!  Join our resident running expert from Cornerstone, for this 8-week beginner program – no running experience required!  Learn proper form and technique, and combine your walking/running workouts with essential strength and core work.  And how about this for a goal – train for 8 weeks and run The Cornerstone 5K on April 25th!  This program is designed for “aspiring runners”, and beginners doing low mileage, not those who are already running regularly.  Participants should be able to walk for 25-30 minutes before starting this program.

A Guide to Peace and Happiness in the Hips. Are your hips stiff? Do your knees or ankles hurt? Do you tend to have low back pain? The hip joint is the largest and most versatile joint in the body. It rules over our feet, knees, back and spine, all of which influence our gait and posture. When we have full range of motion of the hips we can gain freedom in whole body allowing us to move through our day with more energy and ease. Debbie Kurilla has been a yoga therapist since 2009 and a yoga and meditation teacher since 1994.

Ballet Technique

Ballet is an excellent way to develop flexibility and strength as well as improve posture and body alignment. This is a traditional ballet technique class: class starts at the barre and continues to center exercises and combinations across the floor. The class is structured for the beginning to intermediate level student, but also works well as a technique refresher for more experienced dancers. Instructor Mary Tawa has been teaching dance for over 25 years and earned her undergraduate degree in Dance. She has also danced professionally in NYC with Rondo Dance Theater and was the artistic director for TAWA Dance Company in Frederick, MD. For all fitness levels.
